I just recently noticed that the Nintendo DSi stylus that came with my system may have been scratching my touch screen. I lost the other stylus that came with my system, so I have only been using one stylus. When I touch and drag across the touch screen with the tip of the stylus facing up, I hear a silent scratchy sound, and when I press a little harder it actually scratches the touch screen a little bit. When I touch and drag the touch screen with the tip of the stylus facing down, there is no scratchy sound and if I press a little harder it doesn't leave any scratches.
My touch screen is full of little scratches and there are weird spots that look like it might be from touching those spots repeatedly in games with the faulty stylus, which makes sense because I like to hold the stylus with the tip facing upwards against my finger. I bought the system new at Walmart around the end of June last year and with it registered the warranty should end around the end of September.
I looked on Nintendo's Support site and they want to charge me $50 to replace the touch screen with $25 off because of the warranty. Do you think this might be a special case so that I can get the touch screen replaced for a lower price or even free?
Maybe you should get screen protectors.

It's too late now, the touch screen is already scratched ![]()
I know that some people on e-bay sell DSi screen replacements (I don't know how you would install it yourself, though :| )
But I don't think there is any cheaper way to repair it, unless there is a store nearby you that does system repairs that could possibly do it for cheaper. I'd just save myself some trouble and just pay the $25.
It's actually $50 ($25 off, it would normally be $75) and I am not going to pay to get it repaired because I am saving up to buy the Nintendo 3DS. I was just hoping Nintendo would voluntarily replace it for free because it is their official stylus that scratched my screen, so it is not my fault. I'll call them and see what they can do. If they can't, then oh well, the scratches aren't really noticeable unless it is really bright where I am playing.
That is true it is there problem. You have a point there. They should replace your DSi screen...does your stylus have anything sharp at the tip of it (like a sharp plastic dot)?
Nothing noticeable to the naked eye..
I have encountered this problem with all of my DS systems (well there have only been 2 but still). I have found that they actually aren't scratches. If they were you would be able to see a brighter light from the screen under the touch one. Instead, they are just marks. Solution? Take a damp cloth and clean off the touchscreen. It should look good as new.

That isn't the case for either of my DS systems. I clean them regularly and the scratches do not come off.
That's weird. Did you try putting your finger on the tip of the stylus?
I feel bad for you-your DS lite breaks and your DSi has a problem. lol.

Yup, I don't feel anything on the tip of the stylus.
And don't feel bad haha, I am having only minor problems. My DS Lite's screen still stays up and works just fine (it's just loose now), and most of the scratches on my DSi are only noticeable when I am playing in a bright area.
Sorry to hear you're having this problem, but I'm glad to hear I'm not alone. Both styli that came with my DSi were scratching. I actually went through 7 styli and 3 screen protectors (all official Nintendo products) before I finally got one that doesn't scratch. Luckily the stylus never actually scratched my screen, just the screen protectors. Most of the DSi styli that I've seen seem to have a sharp bump that isn't really noticeable to the naked eye, but if you touch it you can feel that the texture isn't perfectly smooth. Strange thing is I've never had this happen with the 2 DS Lites that we own.
I know it's a little late now, but I would highly recommend getting screen protectors for any touch screen devices you buy in the future. A few dollars goes a long way when talking about preserving your investment. ![]()
Yeah I think I will call Nintendo and see if they are willing to replace my screen without a charge. If they charge me, then I won't replace it, I'll be getting the Nintendo 3DS when it comes out anyway and I'll be sure to get a screen protector for it.
They will not replace your screen for free.
It should not cost more then $50 to $70 dollars.

I called Nintendo and they had me send my DSi and stylus. They found that my stylus was faulty and they replaced my screen for free
and they also sent me back two new stylus'.
I love Nintendo.
Your Stylus may be scratched itself. Try using a different stylus, in your case buy a new one
I recommend putting on screen protectors that has a smooth surface. I have a pair of them on some of my DSs but I will not mention the names but hope you can find one
Im glad the stylus was faulty and was replaced for free. Not everyone will have the same case as yours but hope it will.
I bought protectors after my PokePark DS was scratched since Im not yet aware with the DS and the touchscreens but I learned very quick. My DS Lites, DSis and DSi XLs all have screen protectors SINCE I bought them
Yes but keep in mind that screen protectors do not come off either.

I don't know about dsi's but my ds lite screen protector came off just fine, it just made the corners a little dirty looking.
My 3DS's touch screen has been scrathced in on spot. It is slightly curved and approximately 3/8 of an inch long. It does not affect the pixel's art directly, but it does bother me. I did not buy a warrenty when I bought it from the store. I registered my 3DS on Club Nintendo and it said something about a 90 day warrenty. Should I have a 90 day warrenty or did it only add 90 days if I already had a warrenty? How can I fix my screen without further damaging it or without sending it in for repair; I don't have $40 to cover the dicounted repair price.![]()
Nintendo's warranty is 12 months plus 3 months, if you register it on Club Nintendo. You do not have to pay for the warranty.
I don't know if the warranty will cover scratches to the screen, but you should call them and find out. You can call Nintendo at 1-800-255-3700 anytime between 6 AM and 7 PM Pacific Time.
