images are in black and white?

I am setting up Wii for the first time and the images are in black and white. Is this normal? I have not gotten past the set up page.

Thanks

Re: images are in black and white?

This has to do with how you inserted the AV cables. Ensure that the Video cables are inserted into the correct slot. If they are, then you'll have to try to adjust the colour/tint settings on your television set.

Alright. I'm pretty sure it's where you're inserting the cables but just post again if that doesn't fix the problem and I'll try to offer more advice.

Re: images are in black and white?

I heard some users had to switch HD to SD if that was on an option on their TV. To make it work properly.

Re: images are in black and white?

Did you or anyone figure out why the Wii is in black and white?  I just connected a new Wii to an HDTV and I have the same problem.

Re: images are in black and white?

HDTVs usually do that to the wii and you will have to change it to an sd instead of HDTV hope this helps out people with the same problem with HDTVs

Re: images are in black and white?

Thanks for the quick response.  That doesn't seem to help either.  TV is set to SD.   Cables are correct as well.  If I ever figure it out I will Post.  Thanks again, LINKANDPIKACHU!

Re: images are in black and white?

If you're connecting to your television using the composite cable that was included with the Wii console (the yellow, red, and white cable), then this image issue is likely caused by placing the yellow end of the cable into the wrong television input.

I'd recommend checking the labeling next to your television's inputs and making sure you have connected the Wii's yellow video cable into the input labeled "composite video" and not one of the "component video" inputs.

If you have confirmed  you're connected to the correct inputs and are still experiencing this issue, please call Nintendo's Consumer Service Department at 1-800-255-3700 so that we may assist you further.

Re: images are in black and white?

You fixed my problem.  Although the 'component' inputs are labeled, the other inputs on the back and the side of the TV are not labeled as 'composite' or otherwise.  I had 'component' in my head as the TV's Source choice (TV, Video, Component) because I already have a DVD player connected to TV with Video as my souce.  Once I plugged in the Wii to the side connectors on the TV just labeled video and audio in/out AND set the TV Source to Video I was able to get the Wii to come up in Color.   Thank you for getting me up and going in COLOR!!

Re: images are in black and white?

This provided me just enough information to discover my problem. I did have color but so muted and my grandkids continually complained I had no red.  I tried several different inputs and changing the screen or TV to no luck. Then I read about using the standand cable that came with the Wii.  When I purchased my set up they said to buy the 'very pretty' HDTV set up with 5 connections.  I disconnected it and put in the one that came with the system and man do I now have RED.

lol - I think the kids will be thrilled!  Thanks for the tips to get me on track. . . .

Re: images are in black and white?

I just set up the wii for the first time on an HD TV, a Vizio to be specific. When I had the tv input set to "AV" I got a black and white picture, but upon changing the input to "Component" instead, I got full color! I think this was your problem.

Re: images are in black and white?

I have a similar problem and was hoping someone could help.  my television doesnt have the standard white/yellow/red audio/visual connectors like my other ones do- this one has two rows of inputs, one side is green-blue-red-red-white-red-white, and the other side is green-blue-red-red-white-yellow-red.  I have tried combinations on both sides and the best result (the only result with a picture) i get is when the yellow video cable is in the bottom green slot, but the picture is still black and white.  My television doesnt appear to have a button or menu option to turn off the HD.  It is a Westinghouse tv, so it is not a top brand, if that has anything to do with it.  Thank you in advance.

Re: images are in black and white?

The actual TV model may be helpful. The yellow plug would probably go into the yellow input on the TV, which is usually for composite video.

Re: images are in black and white?

my wii dose not have a standerd wight, yellow, red cord insted it has a half green half gray, half blue half gray, half red half gray, all those are gray on top and color on bottom. the other 2 cords are red on top gray on bottom, wight on top gray on bottom. so 5 cord go into my tv. maby you should look into that cord or call nintendo.

Re: images are in black and white?

Okay I had this problem too it's really easy to fix. Go to the wii home screen and go on the wii settings. When your on wii settings click on screen. Go on 'tv type' it will be on 60Hz, just set it to 50Hz.
