With the price drop announced. I think now would be a good time to buy another 3ds to replace the one I lost. Since I connected my club nintendo account to my old 3ds's eshop, will I qualify for the ambassador program if I connect the new 3ds to my account or is that not how it works?
I believe so. As long as you log into the eShop before August 11 at 11:59 P.M Eastern Time, the system will qualify you for the twenty free games.
Ok but I'm refering to after the price drop on the 12th. Will my club nintendo account's previous connection to my first 3ds's e-shop be able to qualify me for the program on my new 3ds after the price drop?
Probably not since they are two different 3DS's.
Whether or not you are eligible for the ambassador program depends on your 3DS. Your club Nintendo account has nothing to do with it.
The only way you can be an ambassador is if you either connected to the eShop or installed the latest update before 8/12/2011. If you bought a new 3DS on 8/12/2011 or later, you cannot use that 3DS to download the ambassador games.
I think your only chance at this point is if you buy a used 3DS that the previous owner happened to connect to the eShop before 8/12/2011, as that used 3DS would be eligible for the ambassador program.
I have a feeling that shortly after this post, GameStop is going to sell out of used 3DSes....
according to the help page on transferring games from a old 3ds to a new one, when nintendo enables this feature, they would only let you copy select programs over. (what this really means is that the ambassidor games will not be transferrable). now if it got stolen. your hosed. now if it would of been like the psp and ps3, you could login to your account and redownload all your games on the new console even if the old one was stolen. (I think nintendo needs to redo its entires eshop system to be this way as with the way it is now, you lose everything if a 3ds gets stolen as nintendo ties a account to the hardware and prevents you from signing into your eshop account on another console).its the wii all over again.
