[12/5/11] Latest Update below
About the Firmware uodate on the 8th of December for all you fans!
According to Nintendo 3DS Blog & News, here is a list of all the updates:
And a very Merry Christmas!
Thank you to NOA_TECH_JANE for allowing this post to stay up!
So the Update went live the 6th and now is fully functional and available to the public.
There have been issues for me though. I have revieved Nintendo Zone as well but it lags the menu up when I scroll past it, wonder what that is, and anybody else have that problem?
SWAPNOTE! NINTENDO 3DS MESSAGING SYSTEM!
A few months ago (October I believe) Reggie Fils-Aime stated that SwapNote would be coming soon to Nintendo 3DS. This was said to be the "Messaging" system 3DS owners were waiting for. There was pictochat back on previous Nintendo handhelds, but nothing close to that was on the Nintendo 3DS.
So, now we wait for SwapNote to come out. I'm guessing it will be here on Thursday, December 8th (original update "maximum" wait time). Which is tomorrow if you are viewing this the 7th. The reason why is becaus I think it will be here with new demos, videos, and other things for eShop.
Note: SwapNote is not "type-to-message", from the pictures and video from Nintendo Video (on the Nintendo Wii system), it looks like a drawing based message system, but it does hold the option to recorde your voice.
Happy Updating! (Again)
And a very Merry Christmas! (AGAIN!)
P.S. For anyone wondering if you could download movies to the Nintendo 3DS via .avi format. DON'T try! Fair warning! You cannot whatch movies on it! (Yet )

No problem, thanks for viewing.
Nintendo Zone was originally only available at Best Buy, Nintendo World, and other Nintendo Sponsored Stores. When you brought your 3DS in, it would Automatically download Nintendo Zone. This Application will give you game demos and extra content. It was originally designed for Nintendo DS Lite and Nintendo DS Color though.
Well, if you bought a game at a store, or on Club Nintendo™, then they give you a code download. You would type that code in, then it would be added to your Nintendo 3DS.
I can only say what I know, but I think it may be retail game demos, and "mini" games, like 'Grill-Off with Ultra Hand!' that is available for purchase with Club Nintendo™ Coins for your Nintendo Wii Console.
I've been hearing that we'll get demos for both retail and download titles. I've also been hearing that the demos can only be played only a certain number of times before they expire (no doubt to convince you to buy the game and not play the demo forever)
Guys, you do remember that this is a tech-support forum site, right? It's meant so that people can get help with their Nintendo games, consoles, and accessories that are not functioning properly or are broken. Please stay on-topic within the forum guidelines.
this is a tech related thing. what if you had no internet acses to reseve notifications? i you came here you would no when to go some were (best buy, your local coffie shop) to update 3ds. it is not a tech related problem but it is tech related.
I wanted to jump in here and say it's OK to get excited and talk about this. It's true that we don't usually encourage speculation on upcoming products, events, launches, etc.
This is a good example of a topic that kind of falls into both camps of tech help in existing stuff vs. future stuff, so it's allowable.
Asking that you try not to stray too far off topic, though.
Nah, I think it's just some technical inner-machanical thingy or other that helps it recognize it more or stabalizes it or something. Maybe to help it recognize bigger QR codes, since PushMo has a BIG QR Code to try and capture. Stuff like that.
The QR Code update is actually something completely different than what you are thinking. If you press R or L on the main menu then it will bring you to the camera shortcut. When you are there, a little checkered box icon should be on the bottom left or in that general area. When you use this you can use QR Codes like the ones that are on magazines, cereal boxes, etc. It is like a link to a site.
I know Nintendo did say December 8, but I've noticed something that makes me think it might be a little earlier. You know how one of the features is "expanded eShop, including demos"? Well, if you check the Nintendo eShop right now, it will say it's undergoing maintenance. Sure, it could be something else, but this is the most likely explenation, and maintenance usually doesn't take 2 days. So who's with me saying that the System Update is coming a little early?
I haven't checked the eshop since Thursday, but now I'll have to try it. Anyway, in the official Nintendo news update about the update, it says that the update will be here by December 8th. That means that we will recieve the update on or before December 8th. You can view this here: http://www.nintendo.com/corp/nintendo3ds/news/
Here is the text:
Nintendo 3DS System Update Information
The upcoming Nintendo 3DS system update is in the final stages of internal testing and will be available by December 8. We will provide an additional update once the system update is officially available.
This system update includes the following features:
- 3D video recording via the Nintendo 3DS Camera
- New game content in StreetPass™ Mii Plaza™, including Find Mii II
- Transfer of downloaded software and data between Nintendo 3DS systems
This system update is free of charge. To learn how to perform a system update, click here.
Also, while I was just now reading it (I have read it several times), I noticed that it says that there will be "an additional update once the system update is officially available." What could this mean? Any ideas?

I personally think is that they will change the message they posted (update) once the update (3ds update) is available........................
Hope you understood lol:D
LOL i got it like 30 min ago!! ITS AWESOME question though........
i noticed that the 3d videos it records are in AVI format........will there be any way to transfer 3d movies in the same format.....???!??!?!
It would be best to start a new thread for this question, as this thread is about something else and a bit cluttered. It is much easier for us to answer your question in a less disorganized thread.
According to them, the update is live.
i am having truble using nintendo zone to. how dose it work?
When you go into Best Buy and Nintendo World, you get Videos form it and such! Cool, huh?
nintendo said if you play with someone online you can add them to your freinds list (if you got the update) how to do this. it is on there site right now
I disagree about SwapNote, because technically it's a "software", and since you have to download softwares from the eShop, and we've seen nothing about it, I don't think it's coming that soon.
Your right, but we did see videos and such from Reggie.
The thing is, well just have to wait and see.
Very short videos. And like you said, we'll just have to play the waiting game.
I might update this tomorrow on future things or about SwapNote if it does come out tomorrow.
swapnote isnt on the eshop today
I know, it's sad. The Circl Pad Pro comes out soon though!
