Hi, I'm joining this forum and asking a question on behalf of my uncle, who is deaf. His wii, which he's had since 06, has started to make this strange buzzing sound. Of course, since he's deaf, he never noticed it until he brought it over to my house, so I can't say how long it's been doing this. It only buzzes when a disc is inside, and so far, it doesn't seem to have any adverse effects on the console, discs, or data on the wii. Usually this would be an inconvinience for people since the sound would interfere with the game music, but again, he could care less about the buzzing noise.
My question is this: will the cause of this buzzing noise eventually break his console, corrupt his data or scratch the discs? If it doesn't, and is more of an irritance than anything, then he really has no reason to send it in to Nintendo or try a fix-it-yourself solution. But if something like this will eventually break his console or harm his discs, then I'd like to know so I can tell him to send it in to Nintendo, or to purchase a new Wii altogether.
Thank you for your help! ![]()

How loud is this buzzing? The Wii will normally make some clicking noises when it's reading a game disk. The only time I've heard my Wii make a loud buzzing noise, however, is when the system has frozen during gameplay.
It's actually very loud. You can hear it from across a large room. And it is constant, and only sounds when a disc is inside the console. The console itself doesn't vibrate or give off any heat, however.
The games play just fine, however, and the buzzing sounds as long as the disc is inside the console.
you will have to send the wii in for repairs to do so call nintendo at 1-800-255-3700.
When you take a game out of the Wii after playing it, does the the disk have any visible scratches? Does it sound like any parts inside the system rattle when the system is making this buzzing noise?
CPM- Is there a special or specific line for the hearing impaired? If he calls, he will have to use a videophone or TTY.
TheBoy- We've checked a few times, and it does not appear to be scratching any of the discs thus far. Again, he's deaf so he doesn't know when the whirring sound started. It could've started today, or two months ago, for all we know. Also, we don't hear any other rattling, shakin, jerking, or any other inconsistent sounds coming from the console. Just the constant, steady buzzing noise.
It doesn't seem that there's any damage being done, but I would contact Nintendo just in case. You can e-mail them here: http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/webformsc.jsp.
you can also email nintendo by using http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/webform.jsp.
Alright, I'll try emailing.
Thanks for the advice. ![]()
