I have a Netgear N600 Wireless router, model number WNDR3400. It's a new router, as my old router of 6 years stopped functioning about a week ago. My Nintendo Wii and Nintendo 3DS (when it is in 3DS mode) will connect to the Wi-Fi connection perfectly fine through the Wireless B/G broadcast with WPA2 security. However, a friend of mine wanted to trade Pokemon today and I found that it can't connect to the Wi-Fi connection. I continue to get a 20109 error code. It doesn't make any sense to me why the 3DS can connect to the router just fine when using SpotPass and connecting 3DS games to Wi-Fi servers, but can't with Pokemon White. Does anyone else have this kind of router and know how to get Pokemon Black/White working on it?
Did you remember to set up the DS wifi connections?
Because those are separate from the 3DS settings.
Even though your Nintendo 3DS can connect to the internet, you have to configure a connection for Nintendo DS games specifically, before you can play Nintendo DS games online.
I already tried that, setting up a guest network with no security settings and got the same error code when it was trying to test the connection.
Are you using a home network, or a hotspot? And you may want to look up the Error Code. http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/wfc/en_na/ds/results.jsp?error_code=20109&system=3DS&locale=en_US#hotspot
It's my home network.
Are you sure you configured a Nintendo DS connection? Nintendo 3DS, and Nintendo DS connection setup are separate.
Nintendo DS connection setup is right under ''Connection Settings'' on ''System Settings''.
Yes, on an unsecured Guest Network for the router. I get the same error code, and I don't HAVE to do that anyway. DSi enhanced games, like Pokemon Black and White, use the System Settings information rather than the seperate DS settings.
I'm not sure why it isn't connecting. I suggest contacting Nintendo. http://www.nintendo.com/corp/contact.jsp
I'll update the issue. I transferred the Wi-Fi settings from my DS Lite, after setting new ones up, and I can connect to the Wi-Fi Connection through testing from the DS connections tab, and from regular DS games. I still can't connect to the Wi-Fi Connection through Pokemon White. I should note that this is a system that Nintendo repaired due to screen issues.
Could you try using this game on the Nintendo DS Lite, so we can tell if it is the game or the system that isn't working.
I did. The game connects on the DS Lite, but not the 3DS. However, it appears that non-DSi games WILL connect to the Wi-Fi Connection (on the 3DS). I just tested Mario Kart DS, and I do not get an error code. It connects to the match making just fine. 3DS games also have no issues. On Pokemon White, I can't even get past the "Connecting to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection" part. This system was repaired, possibly replaced, by Nintendo because its screens were misaligned.
UPDATE:
I figured out the problem myself, anyone who checks here remember this if you see anyone else here on the forum with this specific problem. Go into your 3DS systems settings, and change your Pofile settings. Change the user name, and reconfirm the birthday, region, etc. settings just in case. After doing that, I connected to GameSync without a hitch!
Thanks for posting this. You just helped me, at least!
This is a serious problem that needs to be addressed by nintendo in the support section. I went through so much greif trying to get this to work and soooo much trouble altering router settings. Thank you so much for this fix, I really didn't think it would work and it was a couple days before I even botherd trying it, but I will vouch that this simple technique fixed all of my connection problems!
Good work Hero_Of_Fate
Thank you! I just spent a few hours trying to figure this out myself. It wasn't until I posted my own topic that I saw this as a related problem and sure enough changing those things fixed it! I reposted your instructions to my topic just in case someone sees that first or something. XD
