What is the difference between spotpass and streetpass and how do I activate it for Mario Kart 7?

To unlock the Gold Glider Kart in the game it says I must connect with 100 people via streetpass. How do I do this (technical question)? That is all I need to know, how to use Street and Spot Passes for Mario Kart 7 online. Thank you in advance.

To connect with 100 people via StreetPass, you must have your 3DS on in sleep mode and go by other people who have a 3DS in sleep mode.  The 3DSs will automatically correct, and you'll receive a green light indicating you met someone.  To activate StreetPass and SpotPass in Mario Kart 7, first, go to the Mario Kart Channel.  Then, at the bottom right corner of the touch screen, there will be an icon with your Mii on it.  Tap it, then hit "Settings."  From there, you can adjust if you want SpotPass and StreetPass activated.

It doesn't matter whether you have both Streetpass and Spotpass on at the same time.  It only matters if you have Streetpass on.  Also, It doesn't matter what you're playing, as long as the system is in sleep mode.

Cellular coverage has nothing to do with it.  Streetpass only connects to other 3DSs with the 3DS's independent signal.  Spotpass is used by being near a router that your 3DS has a connection with.

Going to a local Gamestop or gaming events is a good way to get Streetpass tags.

Last question, can I receive street pass info/exchange data even with my 3DS charing in my room?

What do you mean by charing?

You can recieve Streetpass and Spotpass data as long as the wireless switch is on; charging doesn't matter.

For Spotpass, all you need to do is be in range of an accessible router.  For Streetpass, you won't get any Streetpasses if you just keep the 3DS in your room.  You have to walk around and be near other 3DS owners who have Streetpass enabled.

A standard charge while playing (not sleep mode) lasts a bit less than 5 hours on a full charge and with lowest brightness settings activated.

As for the amount of time that a full charge would get you while in sleep mode with wireless off--it is hard to say.  I recall something that states that a full charge will last the 3DS about 3 days in sleep mode with wireless off, but you shouldn't let your 3DS be in sleep mode for anywhere near 3 days.  With wireless activated in sleep mode, you will still get many hours out of the battery.

Just keep your 3DS charged and you will be fine.  You can walk around for a good chunk of the day with the 3DS in sleep mode and wireless on, and simply recharge it when you sleep.

Probably not 20 hours with wifi on, but there will be enough battery life.

Typically, ideal locations to receive StreetPass info would usually be places like malls (lots of those in San Diego), videogame stores, parks, and pretty much any place where there's lots of people.

You would probably be going too fast on the freeway for a signal to register anyone.  Also, very few people will have their 3DS in sleep mode and waiting for a Streetpass tag while in a car.
