The first question for the Facebook quiz asked if Link was originally left, right, or both handed. Nintendo says that Link was originally left handed. However, this is not correct. If you look at Link's sprite while he is facing to the side, he holds his sword in whichever hand is facing the screen. If he is facing to the right, he holds the sword in his right hand. Because he switches hands, he is clearly ambidextrous. I want Nintendo to acknowledge this mistake and apologize to anyone who put the correct answer but was marked wrong.
And yet when you walk up and down, it's always in his left hand? Give me a break buddy.
And you just can't make a left hand when he is facing right (without his sprite looking really weird) and it's a lot easier to just mirror the image of the sprite instead of having it attempt to stay true to being left handed.
From what iv'e seen on walkthroughs (I do not own the original zelda game) Link is always using his left hand, even when he faces the side. Can you find a video or picture that proves other wise?

Well, here's a pic from Zelda 2 that had him being ambidextrous (though that had more to do with the fact that since it was a side scroller, they couldn't have him be left handed and still have the shield in front of him at all times without flipping him around) http://www.shamoozal.com/nerdlog/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/sh_zelda_2.jpg
This is from original zelda: http://daftbit.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Zelda-NES.jpg
You can see him holding the shield in his left hand instead (again, because it would look really weird in his other hand for this sprite)
I think nintendo meant when he uses is sword, but i dont know. My computer blocked the first link so i couldn't see it (I think nintendo was talking about the first legend of zelda game anyway). I can't seem to find a picture with him useing his sword facing the right. If you have any luck post it! Contact nintendo to get things straight!
Exactly
Yes Miyamoto is ambidtextrous so he made his characters like Link, Mario, And Bowser Jr.
Aw... I'm not the first person to notice this (for the quiz).
At any rate, this trend actually continues through most of the 2d Zelda games, including Link's Awakening, the Oracles, A link to the past, and Four Swords
(It probably still happens in Minish Cap, but I don't remember).
At any rate, as long as link looks to the right, the shield is in his left hand, and sword in his right, therefore, he's ambidextrous in the original NES game, and the quiz was done incorrectly.
Agreed - the answer is WRONG.
Aside from the sprite thing, MULTIPLE pieces of Zelda artwork released at the time of the original release - including pictures of Link in the MANUAL show link carrying his sword in his right hand.
The answer is WRONG. ![]()
It's right and it's wrong. It is meaningless in terms of the sweepstakes, however, since the five winners were chosen at random, regardless of if all their answers were correct or not.

Look at all the artwork of Link in the games. Only Skyward Sword (in which they said Link was right handed for the Wii Motion Plus) has his sword in their right hand.
Even says he "invariably" holds it in his left hands.
It's called 2D faults. Geez. They can't make it look perfect.
If he was ambidextrous, then you'd be able to use the sword in your right hand at ALL times. Not just because you happen to be facing one direction and the game's designers didn't feel like being perfectionists.
"Look at all the artwork of Link in the games"
Okay.
::goes and gets his boxed copy of the ORIGINAL Legend of Zelda out of his closet and looks in the manual:
Yup. Sword in his right hand.
