What the update pretty much does is that it checks for any unauthorized modifications and applications and removes them. It also patches the console to deny any mods, unofficial channels, and pirated software that would've been used.

 

If you're asking what the difference is, what other Wii Menu version are you comparing it to?

Because of hacking software etc they have shut the access to the shop channel to anyone without 4.2 and I believe it updates the system used to boot up the machine but that is not something visual.

Thanks for the info... I havent had the Wii very long and I did one previous update.... just wondered if there were any big deals with it...

It just helps get rid of hacking devices. Nintendo has made updates like this ever since the Twilight Hack existed. But this is good since there will be more fairness in Wi-Fi battles in many games. Though, I can't guarantee this 100%.
