Error 86420

I have been playing Pokemon Heart Gold on my DS Lite.  Whenever I attempt to trade with friends (registered from friend codes) in the Wifi Club, I recieve a "communication error" 86420.  I tested my wifi connection on the DS (in the settings menu) and it works.  I am able to trade on the GTS system and recieve mystery gifts using wifi.  Therefore, I am confused as to why I am reciving error code 86420 errors in the Wifi Club.

 

I looked up the error code to find a solution.  I tried turning my firewall off, this did not fix the problem.  I also tried setting up a manual wifi connection with my WEP key, this also did not fix the problem.

 

Is there anything else I can try to get the 86420 communication errors to stop?  I would really like to be able to trade with people in the Wifi Club.

Have you tried opening ports on your router through the Port Forwarding feature?

 

  1. Create a manual  connection on your Nintendo DS and assign a static IP Address.
  2. Open ports 1 through 65535 as both TCP and UDP.
  3. Ensure the ports are forwarded to the same IP Address  given to the Nintendo DS system during the manual setup.

I attempted to port forward but I don't understand it well enough to do it successfully.

Right now, trading is a hit and miss.  I am able to connect with some people perfectly but I error with others.  I'm starting to think that it may not be my network's problem.

Yeah, since you say you don't have any issues with some connections I'm thinking your connections settings are ok. If they weren't I would expect trouble 100% of the time. It could very well be other people's connections having issues.

I'm still getting comm errors though.  It's so frustrating.  I tried looking up port forwarding, but it's /really/ confusing and I can't seem to figure out how to do it.
