I'm looking to buy a wii, and many of the games I want to play are gamecube games. In the bundle with New Super Mario Bros, it says that gamecube games are not compatable. I know the ones with wii sports and stuff work, but i'd like to know what others are. Is the bundle with Mario Kart backwards compatible, because thats the one I want. If so, are both the black and white ones? I read somewhere that all black wii's are not gamecube compatable.
Just tell me : is this wii bundle backwards compatible with gamecube games.http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Console-Mario-Kart-Bundle-Nintendo/dp/B004WLRQCI/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1319944645&sr=1-1
If it is, would its black counterpart also work?
and sorry if i posted this in the wrong section, im impatient and need to get back to other things
As of this posting, all Wii systems except for the systems included in the New Super Mario Bros. Wii + Super Mario Galaxy soundtrack CD bundle will support GameCube games. The newer systems without GameCube support sit horizontally and have the Wii logo printed horizontally to reflect that.
thanks a bunch i was just worried i'd buy a wii and then not be able to play some of my favorite games ever... i'd have to smash something.
You have taken my first chosen username .
Yes, Mario is correct, this is the version you need.
According to this article- http://technologizer.com/2011/10/17/new-wii-bundle-same-price-new-game-no-gamecube/ -, the Wii bundled with Mario Kart Wii is backwards compatible with Gamecube games.
This is true. I have the Wii that was bundled with Mario Kart, and it will play gamecube games.
If it has the model number RVL-001 it should work.
This is correct. RVL-001 models play GameCube.
This includes at least the early models of the red Super Mario Bros Wii bundle.
I bought one at Sams Club for the same price as just the normal wii sports bundle.
Other than that, gamecube ports are available, thus gamecube compatible.
Don't believe all that you hear about this bundle not being compatible, just get the model #.
I've always been kind of scared to put one in it and so I've never inserted a gamecube game yet.
Everyone else I've seen on here said it doesn't even matter where you push it in (top of bottom of DVD drive).
I want to play the original Resident Evil remake, so I'll probably end up playing that on wii's gamecube compatibility.
Yeah. On top of that second hand units won't be difficult to find for years.
RVL-001 sold far more, being the only version until late 2011.
A small number remain in production today because RVL-101 was never released for Japan.
Late bump, but easy way to tell if your Wii will play GameCube games or not:
Check the orientation of the Wii logo. GameCube-compatible Wiis will have the logo facing vertically (long side of the system vertical) and ones that aren't have it horizontal. Also, slots for controllers and GameCube memory cards. (I'll add a picture of mine later so you can see the difference)
