Brawl disk read error after character select.

My super smash bros brawl disk won't load after the character select screen. the game starts up just fine but after I select a character I can hear the wii stop reading the disk (fans and motor stop making sounds), and then i get a disk read error. Ive been looking online for help but this issue seems to happen to people who soft modded their wii. I haven't done anything to my wii so I don't see what the problem is.

Re: Brawl disk read error after character select.

I myself have this problem, although not as severe. I know of a few ways that should fix the problem...

1. Clean the disc

2. If the disc appears scratched you can go to a second hand videoshop and get it "buffed" This usually costs no more than 3 bucks and gets rid of the scratches almost completely.

3.Get your wii cleaned with a compressed air can. (be careful so you don't damage the system)

All of my friends have this problem as well and it's usually because the disc is very sensitive to dirt.

I hope this helps! If not do you have a friend that owns a Wii you could use to test Brawl? Just to make sure its the disc and not the system.

I do not have a soft modded Wii and neither do my friends which have this same issue. It's most likely dirt/dust causing the problem.

Re: Brawl disk read error after character select.

Did you ever try ejecting the disk and popping it right back in when it can't read it? This amazingly has worked for me many times after it would stop loading.

Is the disk new? Has it done this from day one purchase?  If this problem happened on day one or very soon after, (I'd assume) the disk is faulty and will need to be replaced.

If cleaning the lens doesn't work then I'd recommend calling Nintendo.

Re: Brawl disk read error after character select.

Unable to Read the Disc / Disc Could Not Be Read Situation: •System displays either error message "Unable to read disc" or "Disc could not be read" What to do: •This message may display if the disc is ejected during play. Return to the HOME Menu before changing discs. •If the Wii console is laying flat, verify that the system is not placed upside-down. The game disc slot should be above all three buttons and the SD Card slot. •Verify that the disc is being inserted properly. •If the console is placed vertically, the disc label will face to the right. Note: Only Wii consoles with model number RVL-001 are intended to be placed vertically (learn more) •If the console is placed horizontally, the disc label will face upwards. •If the problem occurs with only one game disc, there may be a problem specific to that game. Click here to check our list of specific game issues. Situation Not Resolved: •If only one Game Disc displays this error message, it will need to be replaced. Click here for Game Disc replacement options •If the error is occurring with most or all Game Discs or all of one type of game, then this indicates a problem with the system. The console and one or two example discs will need to be sent in for repair. Click here to begin the repair process.
