trading 3DS for 3DS XL

ok i plan on trading in my 3ds for the 3ds xl not because its a bigger screen but fits my hands better. So, i just want to get my math right in what i want to do. if i do a system transfer does everything on my sd card get transfered? what about my streetpassed miis in the mii plaza, do they get transfered too? and after the transfer is done do i take out my sd card and put it into my 3ds xl? i just want to make sure so i dont lose anything. any helpful answers would be very appreciated

Yes, everything will transfer over, as long as you transfer it correctly.

Just make sure you note that you need both systems to perform the transfer. If you trade in your system before doing the transfer you may be out of luck. Here is a guide for perfoming the transfer.

Just out of curiosity, why won't they take your original 3DS?

Re: trading 3DS for 3DS XL

that is very odd...usually gamestop will allow you to do the system transfer in the store and then trade in the 3DS once the transfer is complete. but you could still always trade it in after you do the transfer at home for store credit to buy games.

...so you're gamestop doesn't take 3DS's for trade-ins at all?

oh wow that is very strange...usually they just let you trade in a 3DS for no reason at all. I've never heard of a gamestop not accepting a perfectly working 3DS

Me neither. This GameStop seems like they need to get things fixed out.

yeah that sounds like a good idea. selling it to your friend would be your best bet anyway. They will probably give you way more than gamestop would for it.

Re: trading 3DS for 3DS XL

There might be a mis-understanding here.  Gamtestop has a special deal right now where they give you $100 for the 3DS if you trade it in for a 3DS XL.  But this only works if you give them the 3DS right then and there.  So you have to do the transfer in the store or loose your stuff.  If you trade your system in at a later time (do the transfer at home for example) you get much less money for the 3DS because then it's just a sale.. not a trade.  That is probably what the person in the store was saying.. it just didn't come across correctly.

Unless you do what I suggested here

The store would happily let you buy it at full price, perform system transfer at your own home, then accept the return (technical refund) and at the same time resell it to you under the trade-in program. I was a happy customer.

Take a read at this and discuss with your GameStop, Vengefulservant

Wait, wait, wait, you got a free game from GameStop? I just looked it up, and they are giving free games when buying a new system! So, now I have to go back to GameStop, get my free game, and tell them that I didn't get points for my last purchases. GameStop really needs to get on top of things like this...

Re: trading 3DS for 3DS XL

Wow, great info! Their website did say you can get either a free Pilotwing Resort or Steel Diver with a purchase of a 3DS or XL (trade-ins or not), offer expires 9/30 (but the store I called said theirs end 8/31, weird.) They will take responsibility and honor the deal even after sale before it expires. I'm going back to GameStop on Monday to claim my free game.

Now this is veering off technical support issues, but people, do let us know if you have any more trade-in problems, and ask GameStop to let you perform a system transfer instead of just swapping SD cards.
