Wii U Gamepad Battery/Charging Problems

Hey guys!  Today when going to play my Wii U, I found out the battery in my gamepad was drained.  So, I went to plug my charger into it, and found myself in some trouble.  The charging light did not appear, and the gamepad would not even turn on, even when I turned on my Wii U from the console. I took my charger and the gamepad to multiple different outlets around my house, and still nothing changed. I'm not quite sure what to do.  I don't really want to go check the battery (not quite sure if that voids the warrenty) so I'm hoping your expertise will help me in this situation.  Thanks!

Don't worry, it won't void the warranty, so try removing and then reinsert the GamePad battery and that might reset it and allow the GamePad to charge again.

But if not, then you might have to give a call to Nintendo's 1-800-255-3700 (6 am ~ 7 pm Pacific, everyday) Customer Service number, and see if there is anything else that might help correct this, or if still no luck unfortunately have to discuss repair options, sorry.

How to Remove or Replace the Battery in a Wii U GamePad

Description:

  • Step by step instructions on replacing the battery in a Wii U GamePad.

Important Note!

  • Turn the power off and disconnect the AC adapter if it is connected to the controller.
  •

  • Use a crosshead style, size #00 screwdriver to avoid damage to the screw or threads.
  •

What to do:

  1. Press and hold the POWER button for at least one second to turn off the power.

  2.

  3. Loosen the battery cover screws with a #00 size Philips screwdriver.
  4.

    • The battery cover is designed so the screws can be loosened, but not fully removed.

  5. Remove the battery cover by lifting the edge slightly, and then removing it outward.

  6.

  7. Unplug the connector first, and then remove the battery by pulling it outward.
  8.

    • When disconnecting the battery cable, pull by the plug, not the cable.

  9. After 10 seconds, insert the new battery.
  10.

  11. Replace the battery cover and tighten the two screws, being careful not to overtighten them.

  12.

That's not true at all. The battery may be just defective, and won't charge.
