Is there a process for alerting Nintendo that a 3DS XL was stolen? We had one taken along with two copies of Animal Crossing while on vacation. I have the serial number of the system and police report but could not find a place on their site to report it. We also had a laptop stolen and reported it to Dell.
We stopped at the Federal Reserve at lunch, and when we came out the passenger window was smashed in. The bizarre thing was that we parked next to the security camera and the Fed was filming a video nearby. Not only did the thief make away with a variety of electronics but he also took a Dr. Who Tardis hat pin and a Peanuts hardback book. At least he has good tastes in television and comic strips.
I called Nintendo support at 800-255-3700 and chose option (3) "Anything else" and option (5) "All other questions". I explained that my Nintendo 3DS XL had been stolen. The lady I spoke with was very helpful. Unfortunately Nintendo does not have a tracking system similar to Dell to track stolen systems. However, they are able to transfer the eShop purchases from one 3DS to another with the following information:
The only caveat is that the source system's eShop information will replace the eShop information on the destination system and thus eliminate any purchased products. Therefore it is pertinent to use a destination system that is new or has never purchased anything through the eShop.
I hope this helps anyone that might be in a similar situation.
