Update!
We've posted details on our support site:
Full support site info can be found here: Data Transfer Overview
Hello!
We can confirm that there will be a method available that will allow most DSiWare content to be transferred to a Nintendo 3DS. This feature won't be available until a future update, so we don't have all the details just yet. Until this feature does become available, there are a few things you will want to keep in mind:
More information on this process will be available on our support site and at www.nintendo.com/3ds once it becomes available.
Thank you,

NOA_TECH_JANE, I heard the rumor that all the saved data of the DSiware games will be lost with the tranfer to the 3DS... is that true? ![]()
yes it is true
Hi,
It's true that save data from your Nintendo DSi cannot be transferred. Here is a little more info on our support site:
I hope that helps. ![]()
Thanks,

Sorry, but you really do need your DSi, so that you can wirelessly transfer all yor DSi Shop content onto your 3DS, and without it, there really isn't much that can be done.
So that does mean if you do wish to play Zenonia on your 3DS and any other DSiware that you might have previously downloaded, you'll need to purchase it again through the eShop, sorry.
Yeap
DSiware games on the 3DS are stretched to fit the screen, like when you play DS games on the 3DS?
That's probably true. But I just wanted to let you know that if you hold Start and Select when you tap on the game icon for the DS game, it will be displayed with its native aspect ratio (it will not be stretched to fit the screen). See the bottom of page 31 of the 3DS Operations Manual.
This probably works for DSiWare, too.

I know, but DS games look ridiculously tiny when you do that.
The DSiWare IS stretched to fit the screens on the 3DS. However, the aspect ratios are maintained, so there are black bars on the right and left side of the top screen. This is the same way the 3DS scales the image for the DS cartridges.
Also, the "Start and Select" trick does work on both DSiWare titles and DS cartridges, making the image smaller and take up less of the screen.
I am pretty sure you only have to press select.

Indeed.
Just Select.
Or just Start.
I really don't know why so many people say you have to press both of them.
It's actually quite hard to press START + SELECT + A at the same time...

This feature won't be available until a future update, so we don't have all the details just yet. Until this feature does become available, there are a few things you will want to keep in mind:
- When the transfer feature becomes available, you will need both your Nintendo DSi/Nintendo DSi XL and your Nintendo 3DS to complete the transfer. This is because the transfer of data will occur via local wireless communication.
- Data cannot be transferred to another system over the Internet, using an SD Card, nor can Nintendo complete the transfer for you.
More information on this process will be available on our support site and at www.nintendo.com/3ds once it becomes available.

I tried to transfer some gamesto my cuzins 3DS, but he said he did it with his brother, and they both had the games and the original save data on, the sender's 3DS. I tried to send some games to him but my 3DS said that I will lose the games AND the save data. Is my 3DS busted?
Please start a new discussion for this question. It is just easier for organization purposes. ![]()
No, that's how it normally works. Transferring content from one 3DS to another 3DS removes all games and data from the original 3DS. This page (click here) details what is transferred. ![]()
Thx
No problem. ![]()
Hello, I have a dsi and a 3ds and I have some questions. Can I transfer the games looksley's line up and wario ware snapped to the 3ds and play them comfortably? I'm asking because the position of the camera is diferent on the 3ds. The other question is: why don't the VC games on the 3ds have multiplayer? It's a great feature missed. Thanks!
Yes, they can be played comfortably despite the different camera positioning. Also, some downloadable games (such as the Ambassador Program GBA games) do not have multiplayer because they are straight ports of the older games. Since the older consoles had methods for multiplayer connection that are different from the connections used by the 3DS, the games cannot use multiplayer. However, Nintendo has stated that they will introduce multiplayer features for more of the downloaded games later on.
Is it legal to transfer data from a friend's DSi to my 3DS?
Sure it is. All you have to do is follow the steps on this page (click on "Transferring DSiWare to the Nintendo 3DS").
is it possible to transfer one single dsi ware game to my 3ds... there is only one i want to transfer and i would like to keep the others on the dsi for i dont want them any more and plan on giveing my dsi to my little brother???

Yes, if you do a custom transfer, you can select which items you want to transfer. If you only want to transfer a single game, you can do that. This only works when transferring from a DSi to a 3DS. You do not get this luxury with a 3DS-to-3DS transfer.
You can do unlimited custom transfers, right BEARDONE?
Yes.
Thanks BEARDEDONE. ![]()
Quick question what can i do if my DSI is broken , i can't transfer the content then, i have downloaded a decent amount of games and apps and would like them to transfer over to my 3ds but from what i am reading is that i will not be able to because i have no access to the dsi. I really feel this is not fair especially after putting money into that machine , is there anyway to solve this? I would like to have my old content on my 3ds.
You can call Nintendo at 1-800-255-3700 to discuss the problem, you may need to set up a repair for the DSi. ![]()
I also would like to have my content back, but my problem was that I traded-in my DSi when the 3DS launched (no eshop, no transfer tool at the time). I think Nintendo should have a system to keep track of the downloads to be able to redownload them on another system. I though at first that when I unlinked my account the games would be stored on the club Nintendo account to be able to redownload them when I linked it on the 3DS but that was not the case and I lost all of them...

There's NOTHING you can do, sorry.
