my friends wii is not turning on when he plugs it in and the red/yellow light is not turning on. we have tried a lot of power outlets so I think it is the power cord. Is it?

Re: wii no power

Many users have had problems where their power goes out and the Wii ends up killing itself. A fix they have done was to plug the Wii into an outlet with a "RESET" button. Pressing the button would reset the circuit and fix the Wii.

If this doesn't work, you could always call up Nintendo for a repair.

Re: wii no power

Have you tried using a different power brick?

Re: wii no power

This worked:   Plugging into a GFI outlet with a reset button helped instantly!

Re: wii no power

I was skeptical, but I tried the recommended fix anyway.

I plugged the power supply (only) into a GFCI outlet that I had tripped with the "TEST" button. I pressed "RESET" and removed the power supply's plug from the wall.

IT WORKED!!

Thank you so much for posting this fix! You saved me a lot of aggravation and more than a little money!!

Re: wii no power

I suggest trying another power supply or doing what I suggested earlier.

Repairs can cost up to 75 dollars.

Re: wii no power

Instead of getting the wii's broken power supply repaired your friend should buy a replacement power supply from a local game store or on the internet.

Re: wii no power

Our WII game was dead...and I was not happy! It happened after a power outage during a typical nasty summer south Florida rain storm.

I pressed the test button on a GFI recepticle (use one in your bathroom or kitchen), plugged the WII game in, pressed the reset button on the GFI recepticle...and THE GAME POWERED RIGHT UP!!!!

We were on our way to Best Buy to purchase a new unit, but decided to check this forum first as a last resort. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!

Re: wii no power

No, this happens A LOT with me, you have to disconnect the power cable from the Wii AND outlet, and leave it for a day.
